Original Civil War .58 caliber Austrian Lorenz Rifle. These are officially known as the Model 1854 Austrian Lorenz rifle. The Lorenz was used early in the Civil War, used by both North and South. The production date is clearly visible on the lockplate "860" which was the Austrian way of denoting the 1860 production date. Behind the hammer it has the Austrian style eagle stamp still mostly visible. The mechanics of the lockplate catches on both of the positions. The barrel is full-length and has the front sight present to go along with the flip-up style rear sight. It is the original .54 caliber with rifling present, but the bore is dark with some pitting. Both of the sling swivels are present. The ramrod is a nice looking original with the correct style brass end tip. The stock has a very pleasing look with pretty beechwood grain pattern. These Lorenz Rifles have become highly sought after, getting hard to encounter a nice one as many were well used.
