Fine+ Sharps 4-barrel derringer in .22 caliber rimfire. Serial #1966 matching. The markings overall are crisp with the right side of the frame being marked in a circular pattern "C.SHARPS & Co / PHILADA. PA.", while the left side is marked "C SHARPS / PATE[NT 1859]", somewhat worn. Production of these began in 1859 just before the Civil War and many soldiers purchased one to carry during the war. The fluted barrels on this example are smooth with much original blue still remaining. This one has the side barrel release button on the left side of the frame. The brass overall has an uncleaned and retains approximately .75% original nickel overall. Very lovely 2-piece wooden grips, showing original varnish and no cracks or chips. The mechanics are fine, complete with rotating firing pin, often missing. This is an untouched, complete example in fine condition overall of a classic desirable American derringer, much better than most encountered.
