Sharps 4-barrel derringer in .22 caliber rimfire. Serial #26312 matching. The markings on the right side of the frame being marked in a circular pattern "C.SHARPS & Co / PHILADA. PA.", (1/2 worn away), while the left side is marked "C SHARPS / PATENT 1859", (slight wear). Production of these began in 1859 just before the Civil War and many soldiers purchased one to carry during the war. The fluted barrels on this example are a .100% charcoal blue smooth patina finish. The brass overall is untouched with a wonderful .98% thinning original nickel finish remaining. Excellent 2-piece wooden grips with original varnish showing no cracks or chips. The mechanics are excellent, complete with rotating firing pin, often missing. This one needs to be cocked to the safety position before the barrels with release. This is an untouched, above average complete example in excellent condition overall of a classic desirable American derringer.
