Scarce early Colt model 1848 Baby Dragoon with desirable 6" barrel, .31 caliber, 5 shot, manufactured 1850. Serial #12117 matching. Generous amounts of original silver on brass. The grips are very good with traces of original varnish remaining. The cylinder shows worn "COLT'S PATENT" marking remaining, although you can't make out the serial #, most likely original to the gun due to patina and wear matching. Metal overall is smooth and dark, free from pitting. "COLT'S PATENT" frame marking on left side clearly readable. 2-line Colt barrel address present, starting to thin. Mechanics need some TLC, cocks and cylinder rotates, does not line completely up at times, safety cock holds, tension in trigger somewhat weak, prices accordingly.
A scarce Colt, used but not abused, well worth the price as these are generally all over $2,000.00+.
