Early 1st model 1862 U.S. Civil War Joslyn carbine in very good condition overall. Serial #2053 matching, all original and complete. The .52 caliber barrel and metal overall is a smooth age grey-brown with no pitting.  The barrel is stamped "T K L" left side of breech.  The bore has clear grooves, some scattered pits and could use a cleaning, original sights.  The lockplate has clear markings "JOSLYN FIREARMS CO. / STONINGTON / CONN.".  The top door bolt has the Joslyn patent dates, serial # and hook-type friction latch with exposed firing pin extension, no later hole drilled for gas escape.  All of the brass exhibit an untouched patina finish.  Mechanics are tight and excellent.  The wood overall is very good showing cartouches on the left, smooth age handling wear exhibiting expected bumps.  Complete with saddle ring and bar.  The Joslyn carbine saw extensive service with the following volunteer cavalry regiments: 4th & 8th Indiana, 19th New York, 13th Tennessee, 9th Pennsylvania, 3rd West Virginia, 2nd Wisconsin, 1st Nebraska, 1st Nevada and 11th Ohio regiments.
