Colt model 1849 pocket revolver. Serial #224627 matching, including wedge, desirable 1863 manufacture. This .31 caliber Colt pocket is equipped with a scarce 6-shot cylinder and fitted with a 6" barrel. In P. L. Shumaker's "Colt's Variations of the Old Model Pocket Revolver Pistol, 1848 to 1872", it is estimated that only about 620 revolvers of this configuration were produced, most of them private purchase of officers. The metal overall is an untouched beautiful aged darker patina. Both sides of frame, hammer and ramrod retain hints of original case colors. The underside of the barrel has original blue finish ahead of the cylinder all the way to the muzzle. The front sight is a small dove-tail style insert. Brass backstrap has a nice untouched patina, with traces of original silver finish remaining. Cylinder scene rates about .90%. Bore is excellent. Mechanics are tight. 1-line New York barrel address, Colt's patent marking of left side of frame is very clear. Grips are good with approximately .10% of the original varnish still remaining, some wear on the bottom edges. Unbugered screw heads. A nice classic Colt model 1849 pocket revolver.
