U.S. Springfield trapdoor carbine. Serial #106401, 1879 manufacture. .45-70 caliber, bore is very good, has a couple areas of light pitting. Original 22" round barrel stamped with excellent 'VP' and eagle head proofs. Original sights, rear buckhorn sight marked with correct 'C'. Metal overall is an aged grey-brown patina. Mechanics are excellent, tight action. The lockplate is excellent with strong eagle and US Springfield markings. Wood is near excellent with no cracks or chips. Crisp cartouche at wrist on left side, as well as rear of triggerguard. The buttplate is marked 'US' and is correct with rod compartment. The bolt is stamped 'US MODEL 1873'. Complete with original saddle ring and bar.
