Sharps 4-barrel derringer in .30 caliber rimfire. Serial #5685 matching. The markings overall are clear and crisp with the right side of the frame being marked in a circular pattern "C.SHARPS & Co / PHILADA. PA.", while the left side is marked "C SHARPS / PATENT 1859". Production of these began in 1859 just before the Civil War and many soldiers purchased one to carry during the war. The fluted barrels on this example are a faded blue-brown smooth patina finish, bright blue in protected areas. The brass overall is untouched with a wonderful mellow age patina quite a bit of original nickel finish remaining. Excellent 2-piece checkered gutta-percha grips showing no cracks or chips. The mechanics are excellent, complete with rotating firing pin, often missing. This is an untouched, complete example in excellent condition overall of a classic desirable American derringer.
