Scarce 18th c. French double-barrel flintlock pistol. All original, 12" overall length, flintlock pistol with French characteristics. Very well made, although unmarked. Metal overall is a smooth, clean steel with age. Both side-by-side barrels and rib are floral engraved with hints of gold finish remaining. In addition, face of frizzens are engraved, hammers, butt cap, fancy triggerguard, even the barrel wedge. The stock is solid and free of any cracks or chips in remarkable overall condition for its age. The stock has additional decorative relief carving around the ramrod channel, triggerguard, locks and floral relief at the barrel tang. Smooth bores are measuring .54 caliber. Mechanics of both locks are very good. A well made early attractive double-barrel flintlock, quite scarce to encounter.
