Rare Confederate Transition Model LeMat revolver. This is one of the most desirable handguns of the American Civil War. It could fire 9-shots of .42 caliber, in addition to one huge .63 caliber shotgun blast of from a smooth bore shotgun barrel located under the main barrel. Firing pin for shotgun barrel present on nose of hammer. This would be your last option for close-up defense as depicted in the movie "Gettysburg" with the gallant Confederate charge of advance up Little Round Top. The 7" octagonal barrel has excellent rifling. The barrel is correctly marked "COL. LEMAT BTE SGDG PARIS" in script. Right side of barrel with correct "L M" block letters beneath 5-pointed star trademark. This revolver has a nice early matching serial number of #804. This number is low as used by the Confederacy, Confederate General Braxton Bragg's LeMat was serial #1273. Metal overall is smooth dove-tail grey with age brown mix. The mechanics are excellent. Original 2-piece checkered grips are very good+ with expected age handling wear. Lanyard circle at the bottom of the grip. Some of the South's most famous figures, including Jefferson Davis, P. G. T. Beauregard, and Jeb Stuart, just to name a few, carried this fearsome weapon. This example is super and for the elite collection.
