George Washington National oil portrait. Between 1861 - 1873 E. C. Middleton of Cincinnati published a series of oval oil portraits intended to have the appearance of oil paintings. This original oval oleograph measured 14" X 17". E. C. Middleton started in 1861 with portraits of George and Martha Washington. The portrait is in very good condition overall with the surface having a slight darkening from age. It has been trimmed down to fit the oval frame which is 12" X 14" overall. Nice looking frame with its original mat, probably framed during the period of 1861-62. A significant American portrait.
