Civil War U.S. model 1832 Federal artillery short sword. This Ames manufactured artillery short sword is in very good condition overall. The blade is a smooth medium-dark aged grey patina with some brown age spots mixed in. A couple trivial nicks to the blade edge. The blade is stamped with a crisp U.S. eagle, under which you can still make out "N.P." of Ames, and "CABOTVILLE". The other side with clear "US / 1845 / N W P". The brass guard is inspector stamped "W A T" on one side, and "N W P" on the other. The brass scale grips has distinct US eagle on both sides. The black leather scabbard is very good, some surface age cracks to the leather, nothing major and no breaks as it is still very solid. Original brass mounts are held tightly in place.
A classic and popular Civil War edged weapon.
