Excellent overall condition 1862 dated Providence Tool light cavalry saber. The blade is in unused condition, retaining all original bright luster, very clean never having been sharpened, no nicks, dents or blemishes, just two marks on either side near the throat from scabbard spring retention to hold the sword in place. One side of the ricasso is deeply stamped “US RPB 1862” in three lines. The opposite side of the ricasso is stamped “PROV TOOL CO” in three lines as well. The original leather washer is present and perfect. The hilt has the leather covered grip with twisted wire wrap. The leather is tight showing the slightest handling wear and the twisted brass wire wrap is 100% intact and tight as well. The brass pommel cap, knucklebow and counterguard have a nice light patina and is tight. The pommel cap is stamped "36", and the guard at the top is stamped "36" twice.
Metal scabbard is complete with throat piece and both mounts and rings. The surface of the scabbard is brilliant with an untouched patina as the day it was issued. The scabbard is free of dents with no wear to the drag.
This is a super condition, early dated Civil War cavalry saber with no need to upgrade.
