Rare West Virginia identified Civil War Sheble & Fisher cavalry saber. Left side of blade stamped "SHEBLE & FISHER PHILAD'A", weak and thinning, but you can still make it out. Beautiful clean blade free of any nicks, chips, dents, blemishes and never sharpened. Leather and wire are tight and very good. Original leather washer on the blade is present. Brass guard is untouched and is stamped on the left "S. TRISLER.". This saber belonged to Private Samuel Trisler, enlisted 09-20-1862 into the 3rd West Virginia Cavalry, Company "B" and discharged 07-13-1865. The 3rd West Virginia Cavalry saw action at Battle of Cross Keys, Battle of Second Bull Run, Battle of Brandy Station, Second Battle of Winchester, Battle of Upperville, Battle of GETTYSBURG, Battle of Williamsport, Battle of Bristoe Station, Battle of Lynchburg, Battle of Kernstown II, Battle of Moorefield, Battle of Opequon, Battle of Fisher's Hill, Battle of Waynesboro, Virginia, Battle of Dinwiddie Court House, Battle of Five Forks, Battle of Sailor's Creek, Battle of Namozine Church, Battle of Sailor's Creek, Battle of Appomattox Station and Battle of Appomattox Court House. Scabbard is a aged dark grey patina. Both hanger rings present, drag is very good as well. Much paperwork accompanies. West Virginia inscribed pieces are quite uncommon, here's a chance to own a cavalry saber used at Gettysburg!
