Fresh out of a Virginia estate, a Confederate side knife. Hand forged blade made from a file. The original ridges of the file are visible on both sides. There are remnants of a maker's stamp on the blade base which partially read "BLACK " +? Dagger shaped blade is 5 7/8" with an iron guard. The knife has an overall dark brown patina. The wood grip was shaped with a knife and exhibits a great deal of age. This is a fine example of an early American knife as seen carried by many Confederate soldiers during the war stuck in their belts.
