First year production 1861 Civil War Dahlgren bayonet-bowie. Developed by Navy Commander John Dahlgren for the Plymouth rifle. This bayonet is all original, including the original scabbard. The age patina on the brass components is even. The lug-nut locking spring on the handle is fully operational. The wood grip is complete with expected age handling wear. The number "1210" is stamped in one side of the wooden grips, probably to be associated with the rifle it was intended to accompany. A few trial nicks to this side of the grip as well. The blade is spectacular with correct full Ames markings, and desirable early 1861 date. The brass end of handle does not have the "DR" in an oval inspection mark, which is correct for this early 1861 "Type I" manufacture. The scabbard is complete, original and in very good+ condition overall. These original Dahlgren bayonet-bowie's are very desirable and getting impossible to find one on the loose these days. Here is a fine example with an early 1861 date.
