Civil War nice condition, model 1864, .58 caliber Federal cartridge box. This cartridge box has the embossed US oval on the front flap, but during the Civil War Era had a standard US oval cartridge box plate attached over the embossed US mark. The box is inspector stamped on the front lower left corner of the flap "R. WHITE / U.S. / ORD. DEPT. / SUB INSPECTOR". The attached U.S. brass plate is beautiful. This cartridge box has flaking on the inner upper flap, right side and back. Also on the lower back is a faint maker's stamp "S. H. YOUNG & CO. / NEWARK, N.J.". The box overall is quite pliable, with both iron roller buckles intact as well as both belt loops, the leather closure tab, and both cartridge tins intact inside. This is a really nice Civil War Federal cartridge box.
