Scarce Confederate carbine cartridge box. The box is in very good condition overall. The body of the box measures approximately 6 1/4" X 3". The overall condition of the leather is good and pliable, the front, one side and most of the outer flap exhibit moderate crazing to the leather. I can make out a "W" that was carved into the front flap with a pocket knife. The entire box is stitched, also bearing a lead finial denoting Confederate construction. All stitching is complete with no splits or separations to leather. The closure tab is intact. Lower left corner of the front flap is missing, most probably from being turned back during period of use which was common practice. Original 2-compartment interior tin is still present. The reverse has both belt loops present and secure.
Confederate cartridge boxes are hard to find.
