Civil War .58 caliber U.S. cartridge box and sling, complete. This is a model 1864 box that someone has added a plate to make it look like a pattern 1857. The leather is in very good condition overall with only light wear consistent with age, some areas of surface crackling. Attached to the outer front flap is a brass "US" oval cartridge box plate in very nice condition with light patina. The latch tab is very good and buckles are present. Both tins are present. The bottom back is stamped "S H YOUNG / & CO. / NEWARK / N.J.". The sling is in fine pliable condition overall. One end has an old stitched replacement, also 1 small nip to one edge. Attached to the sling is the round brass eagle breast plate in good condition with a smooth even patina. Sling measures 18.5" from the box. A nice Civil War rig fine for display.
