Circa 1840 - 1850 Melodeon, manufactured by Richard Sugden Williams of Tononto, Canada. Beautiful rosewood cabinet in excellent condition, showing virtually no signs of wear or abuse. Cabinet 46.5"L X 24"W X 31.5"H. Two rows of beaded trim encompass the lower portion of the cabinet. Center of cabinet above keyboard with gold decal applied label in script "R S WILLIAMS / TORONTO". Tapered, octagon 23" legs screw off. Handsome original sculpted movable music stand. Recently refurbished back to playing condition, everything operational with the exception of 2 keys that have gone out, A above middle C and the very highest octave C. Original ebony and ivory keys. Top folding cover complete and operational. Both brass pedals are original, as well as iron bellow rods.
Accompanied by 2 letters of provenance from the previous owners, one dated 1965, the other 1971, mentioning that the Melodeon was once part of a South Dakota estate.
Accompanied by a Victorian era period bench, ornately carved walnut sides, original pleated rich maroon velvet seat.
These items are in excellent condition and would make a wonderful accompaniment for the right home. I will free deliver these within reason, otherwise purchaser must arrange pick up.
