Civil War officer's Kentucky state button. Brass button depicts state seal of Kentucky, two figures shaking hands, around border "UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.", intended for officer's of Kentucky militia units which were few in number, but generally sympathetic to the southern cause. Backmark: "EXTRA / (star) QUALITY (star)", worn, but legible. Circa 1860. Domed face is clear, just age handling wear. Bent shank. Kentucky buttons are quite uncommon.
