President Abraham Lincoln Civil War commission for Indiana ex-acting Lt. Governor - approximately 23" X 27" frame containing Abraham Lincoln signed military commission dated July 2, 1862 (to rank from June 30, 1862) for additional paymaster to John Robert Cravens of Indiana. Cravens was an ex-acting Lieutenant Governor of Indiana at the beginning of the war. He was also an organizer of the Republican party, Indiana State Senator, President of the Madison & Indianapolis Railway and President of the Shelbyville & Columbus Railway. The document of vellum is in very good condition but the filled in ink and signatures are somewhat light. Signed with full name of President Abraham Lincoln, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton and Adjutant General Lorenzo Thomas. Information from previous owner has document in acid-free mounting with UV protected glass. This is an original document that our celebrated 16th President Lincoln actually held in his hand and signed.  For the advanced collector, signed Abraham Lincoln pieces are highly sought after and only gain value over the years.
