1865 with historic content. Identified inside the back cover to Geo. W. Lukens of Lewisburg, PA. There are a couple of Geo. W. Lukens from PA in the Civil War, but the diary bearer may very well be a son as content would suggest someone in their teens. The diary in completely filled out in ink for every day of the year from January 1, 1865 to December 31, 1865. Title printed page "DAILY MINIATURE DIARY FOR 1865 / NEW YORK: PUBLISHED ANNUALLY BY KIGGINS & KELLOGG / 123 & 125 WILLIAM STREET / 1864". Historic content to include, "APRIL 10, 1865: THE NEWS OF LEE'S SURRENDER CAME AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME- BULLY NEWS. HURRAH FOR GRANT A GOOD DEMOCRAT", "APRIL 15, 1865: RECEIVED THE NEWS OF THE MURDER OF A. LINCOLN AND SEWARD & SON. BAD NEWS- LINCOLN AND SEWARD NOT EXPECTED TO LIVE", "APRIL 17, 1865: THE NEWS OF THREE MEN BEING KILLED IN D.C. & BOOTH BEING ARRESTED & THREE PLAYERS OF THE THEATRE BEING ARRESTED ON SUSPICION". Many more wonderful entries of Lincoln, his funeral, Seward, Lee, death of a soldier, soldiers returning from the war, and more. The diary itself has light wear, scattered staining and aging. Gold gilt page ends. Very good+ condition overall. Not an average diary, here's one with great historic significance.
