Identified Colt model 1849 pocket revolver. Serial #211653 matching, 1862 manufacture. Generous amounts of original blue remaining on the 5" barrel, as well as original casecolors on the frame and rammer, the remainder aged dove-tail grey. The triggerguard exhibits generous amounts of original silver finish. the brass backstrap beautifully engraved "LEIUT A. O. S. CARPENTER CO, C 31ST N.J.V.". Cylinder scene rates about .90RE%. Bore is good with rifling, will clean better. Mechanics are very good. One-line New York barrel address, Colt's patent marking of left side of frame. Grips are very good retaining much of the original varnish. Front brass bead sight.
Abram O. S. Carpenter enlisted as a 1st Sergeant on 09/03/1862, he was mustered into "C" Co. New Jersey 31st Infantry, promoted to 1st Lieutenant 02/10/63 and mustered out 06/24/1863. Lieut. Carpenter would have saw action at the Battle of Chancellorsville. Paperwork accompanies this historic revolver.
