Beautifully executed calligraphy card identifying and most probably done by Private Charles Lane, 3rd New York Cavalry, Company E. 2" X 3.5" off-white calling card stock in ink with fancy red-lettering border enhancement lettering. "CHARLES LANE / CO E / 3RD REGT N.Y. CAV. / NEWBERN, N.C.". The 3rd New York Cavalry had defenses in New Bern October 1863. Private Lane enlisted 08/19/1861, he is listed as POW 05/14/1864, he died in Andersonville GA prison of disease 09/01/1864. He is buried at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA (grave #7462). Excellent condition, slight aging.
