Civil War U.S. issued military Spencer rifle.  .100% original and complete.  Seven-shot, .52 caliber.  Serial #10940.  The Spencer rifles were issued to sharpshooter units, used by Custer’s troopers at Gettysburg and by Wilder’s Lightning Brigade. The frame exhibits a smooth, aged patina with original case colors showing through.  The frame markings "SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS. / PAT'D MARCH 6, 1850" are excellent.  The barrel is a smooth pewter grey with light age-brown patina mixing in.  The bore is very good with strong sharp rifling.  The wood is solid and attractive, free from any sanding, wood missing, cracks or splits.  Some slight surface chipping at the underside of the rear barrel band.  The outlines of both military inspector's cartouches are still visible on the left side of the stock at the wrist.  Retains both original sling swivels and rear sight, correct magazine tube.  The U.S. military issued Spencer rifle is harder to come by than the standard carbine and very desirable, here is one that was not abused as these were used heavily.
