Sharps 4-barrel derringer in .22 caliber rimfire. Serial #21902 matching. The markings overall are crisp with the right side of the frame being marked in a circular pattern "C.SHARPS & Co / PHILADA. PA.", while the left side is marked "C SHARPS / PATENT 1859". Production of these began in 1859 just before the Civil War and many soldiers purchased one to carry during the war. The fluted barrels on this example are a dove-tail grey patina, aged and smooth. The brass overall has an uncleaned, aged patina. Very lovely 2-piece gutta-percha relief grips, showing no cracks or chips. The mechanics are fine, complete with rotating firing pin, often missing. This is an untouched, complete example in fine condition overall of a classic desirable American derringer.
