Civil War Sharps model 1863 percussion carbine in the 2nd New York Mounted Rifles, 1st Maryland Cavalry, 5th Illinois Cavalry range match. Serial #C8334, .52 caliber. This breechloading cavalry carbine fired a linen wrapped cartridge utilizing a Sharps pellet primer fed automatically from a magazine contained in the lockplate. The 22" round barrel retains a very good+ clean bore with strong grooves, should clean better. Very good barrel markings. Other metal components with sub inspector's initials. Original rear ladder sight. The metal overall is a smooth aged grey patina, mixing with some light brown. Strong crisp and clear lockplate markings. Very nice wood overall, free of any cracks, rich color, period aged saddle wear, a couple age surface dings, two strong cartouches above and below saddle ring bar. Original sling bar and ring. The pellet priming mechanism is complete and the mechanics are tight. An original and complete model 1863 Sharps carbine with a serial number range match to some good fighting units.
