Revolutionary War era razor/scalpel/patch knife. These wide bladed folding razors frequently did triple duty as a patch knife for trimming the linen rifle ball patch when loading your flintlock weapon. The hand wrought folding razors also show up in medical or surgical kits as they served the surgeon as a scalpel of the period (see Valley Forge Revolutionary War Museum collection at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania). This razor measures 7" long when open, with a wide 3 1/4" long hand wrought awesome blade. A dark rich brown-black natural age patina on the metal, and the wood handle is original and in very good condition. A great look overall in excellent condition. A rare surviving example of 18th century Americana.
