DOUBLE RARITY, PERSONAL CANE BELONGING TO UNION GENERAL QUINCY ADAMS GILLMORE, AND CONSTRUCTED OF SHARK VERTEBRAE. THE SHARK VERTEBRAE CANE ALONE IS RARE, COUPLED WITH THE ASSOCIATION OF BELONGING TO A FAMED GENERAL OF THE CIVIL WAR! BASE OF THE POMMEL HAS AN ORNATE, 1/2" HIGH SILVER FERRULE INSCRIBED IN SCRIPT "GEN. Q. A. GILLMORE.". THE CANE IS 28" LONG, CYLINDRICAL VERTEBRAE SECTION IS 3/4" DIAMETER AT THE TOP AND TAPERS SLIGHTLY DOWN TO 1/2" DIAMETER. THE BOTTOM FOUR-INCH TIP PORTION OF THE CANE IS OF BONE THAT WAS MACHINED-TURNED TO RESEMBLE SHARK VERTEBRAE. THIS WAS DONE TO INSURE STABILITY AT THE TIP POINT AS REAL BONE VERTEBRAE WOULD HAVE BROKEN APART FROM STRESS AND WEIGHT. A LONG METAL CYLINDRICAL ROD MAKES UP THE CORE OF THE CANE UPON WHICH HOLLOW VERTEBRAE WERE INDIVIDUALLY STACKED. THE SHARK VERTEBRAE CANE EXHIBITS A MELLOW, LIGHT BEIGE COLORING. A FEW STRESS CRACKS ARE VISIBLE. THE BONE HANDLE DOES HAVE AN AGE STRESS CRACK STARTING AT THE FERRULE THAT IS NON AFFECTING. ACCOMPANIED BY SOME PAPERWORK ON THE GENERAL. A WONDERFUL AND IMPRESSIVE EXAMPLE OF A WALKING STICK IDENTIFIED TO A FAMED OHIO BORN CIVIL WAR GENERAL.
