Identified Colt model 1860 army revolver. Serial #76913 matching, including wedge, 1862 manufacture. Metal overall is an aged grey patina mixing with brown. Brass triggerguard has a mellow untouched age patina with a slight bend. Cylinder scene rates about .40%. Bore and mechanics are very good. One-line New York barrel address is clear, Colt's patent marking of left side of frame. Grips are good, cartouche on right. Some slight chipping and rounding to front toes, age handling wear. Left side of barrel just above wedge period stamped "R G M FITTON". This is Private Robert G M Fitton, enlisted in the 3rd Pennsylvania Cavalry, Company "C" on 08-01-1861 and was mustered out 08-24-1864. He was promoted to Corporal on 08-01-1862. Some notable battles for the hard fighting regiment for include: Battle of Manassas, Battle of Antietam, Battle of Williamsburg, Tullahoma Campaign, Battle of Fredericksburg, Battle of Kelly's Ford, Battle of GETTYSBURG and Siege of Petersburg. It is noted that Private Fitton was captured and taken prisoner 07-03-1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg! This wonderful Colt comes with its original flap holster which has "seen the elephant". Much paperwork accompanies this historic revolver in addition to a large volume on the 3rd PA Cavalry in which Corporal Fitton is listed, mentioned and a photo of him in his company.
